The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk, said the main reason for establishing e-learning centers in public schools across the country is to expand the scientific, technical and engineering education.

Farouk, who was represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Nura Alkali, revealed this during the launch of the program in the North West region labeled “STEM Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics,” held at the government high school. by Rano. , in Kano State.

She said the STEM project is a component of the National Social Investment Program (N-SIP) as part of the ministry’s N-Power program to empower young people across the country.

According to her, the project aims to ensure that students in public schools have access to digital and up-to-date learning.

“Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, STEM, is a project strategically designed to provide a technical platform that would facilitate modern teaching and learning of science, technology, engineering and mathematics to students of some carefully selected federal and public science / technology colleges. school, she said.

According to her, the project aims to provide e-learning facilities through the establishment of state-of-the-art information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure and modern educational content for serve as a unique shopping environment for public high school students to access digital. and up-to-date learning materials in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, while developing their ICT skills, including the use of the Internet for various purposes.

She said that the STEM project has two components which include setting up the centers in carefully selected government-owned secondary schools and training teachers in the selected schools.
