BBM plans to activate the national education portal for e-learning

Presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has said that if he wins the next election in 2022, he intends to implement a program called the National Education Portal (NEP) to speed up the transition. digitalization of the country’s education system.

Marcos explained that the NEP will be an online platform accessible to students and teachers to simplify and secure online learning for public and private institutions. It will also serve as a hub for students and teachers to communicate securely and provide digital learning materials.

The portal will be developed in collaboration between relevant government agencies and IT experts from the private sector.

Marcos explained that the program would go hand in hand with the current administration’s Build, Build, Build (BBB) program, as it also seeks to incorporate a digital infrastructure strategy.

Marcos also observed that due to the onset of Covid-19 and the country’s prolonged lockdowns, internet access, especially for students and employees confined to their homes, has become essential.

Marcos lamented the plight of teachers and learners who were ill-prepared for the challenges posed by distance education. There have been reports of teachers and students participating in crashes to find better mobile internet signals.

The Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) flag bearer said the BBB program initiated by the Duterte administration deserved to be continued because it will play a central role in the country’s post-pandemic recovery.

Marcos added that he would also seek the support and assistance of telecom operators and internet providers to ensure the NEP becomes a success.
